Devanshi Somaiya, MD, MPH

Dr. Somaiya joined the City of Houston Health Department as the Chief of Family Planning in 2021, after a long tenure at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic as an OB-GYN from 2003 to 2021.

In 1994, she received her undergraduate degree in Biology from The University of Houston and earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1999. She completed her residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She then completed a Master of Public Health degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, in May 2020, with a focus in Maternal and Child Health.

In addition to her fellowship with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Somaiya is a member of the Harris County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association. She's also a member of the AAGL and the Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG) program.
​When she's not caring for patients, Dr. Somaiya enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering her medical services in local clinics and serves as a mentor to high school and college students. She has worked on several projects internationally in Guatemala, India, and Zambia. Her projects have focused on improving health care access and quality in antenatal care, obstetrical services, gynecological surgery, and cervical cancer screening. She also enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, nature hikes, and gourmet cooking.
