A doula does not provide clinical or medical care, give medical advice or diagnose medical conditions, and does not replace the care of the client's/patient's physician or nurse midwife.

Support:
A doula is a "bonus" to the client's birth support system and does not replace the support person such as a partner, spouse, or family member.
