As a Graduate Public Health Intern for PUSH, Gigi manages the newsletter, helps to create social media content for awareness campaigns, and provides research and support for program initiatives. Gigi joined PUSH as an undergraduate at George Washington University and is now in her first year of medical school. A native Houstonian, she has strived to help her community through a variety of projects. Her interest in women's and reproductive health began after learning about the vast disparities in access to healthcare. Her determination to work in the field of public health has been strengthened by serving as a volunteer COVID-19 contact tracer for Austin, TX as well as an HIV screener in Washington, D.C.
Laurel U. | 2023 Public Health Intern
Southern New Hampshire University
Laurel is a certified Community Health Worker (CHW) and current MPH student at Southern New Hampshire University and is a few months shy of completing and obtaining her graduate degree. Over the last 9 years, Laurel has gained a plethora of experience in different industries, from retail to legal to IT. Prior to embarking on her public health journey, Laurel was a nursing major who felt like something was missing. After taking a public health course, she decided to change her major to public health and obtained her BsPH in December of 2020. Laurel’s focus or interest is maternal and child health, with emphasis on the prevalence of maternal mortality among black women.
Jahrel N. | 2021 Public Health Intern
Harvard University
While entering his senior year of high school, Jahrel volunteered his time and skills during the summer of 2021. During his internship, he completed an analytics assessment to identify family and maternal care deserts throughout Texas while collaborating with other members of the PUSH team. As a student at Harvard University, Jahrel plans to study Biology on a
pre-med track.
